Heterospory || Heterosporous Pteridophytes
Pteridophytes are Vascular non flowering plants. They produce spores in sporangia (Cones) with the help of meiosis in spore mother cell (SMC).
On the basis of structure and function of spores, Pteridophytes can be grouped into two classes......
1. Homosporous Pteridophytes
(produce structurally and functionally same types of spores)
2. Heterosporous Pteridophytes
(Produce different types of spores)
Here we have discussed all about Heterospory. It is a condition found in some plants in which a plant produces more than one type of spores.
Heterosporous Pteridophytes produce two types of spores;
1. Larger spores are called Megaspores
and
2. Smaller spores are called Microspores.
Examples of heterogeneous Pteridophytes
Marsilea
Selaginella
Azolla
Salvinia
Isoetes
etc.
